ABOUT US/WHAT WE DO

Grass
Lawn care personnel are responsible for cutting the grass. They must make sure it is cut in a neat and orderly manner. There should not be any lumps of grass or areas which were overlooked when the job is done. Sometime a sitting mower is used for the major portion of the yard and then a smaller lawn mower is used to get to the hard to reach areas. The grass area should be raked prior to mowing to make sure there is no paper, trash and other debris in the yard.

Fertilizer
A yard needs to have fertilizer put down periodically to make the lawn and other shrubberies receive the proper nutrition. Fertilizer can be sprayed with a dispenser or applied by hand. Once fertilizer is applied the grass grows greener and it gives the yard a better overall appearance. Applying fertilizer is a necessity for a healthy lawn.

Plant Grass
Lawn care personnel sometimes have to plant grass seeds after the ground has been worked. The seeds have to be placed slightly below the dirt to make sure the birds don't eat them. They also might apply pre-grown grass in layers which is a lot faster in gettting a lawn started than are seeds.

Trimming
The shrubberies, trees and other bushes have to be trimmed periodically to make sure a yard is neat and in order. Most of the time electric hedge cutters are used, which helps to expedite the process. Lawn care personnel will sometimes trim the hedges into different designs and styles.

Weeds
The area between the sidewalks and driveway also need care. Grass will sometimes grow in these hard-to-get areas and the lawn crew will need some type of weed machine designed to trim all grass, weeds, and small trees from in between the cracks in the cement. Once this process is complete the appearance of a yard or commercial site is enhanced.

Planting
The owners want new trees, shrubberies, flowers and other vegetation planted in different areas of the yard. The lawn crew will plant these items as specified. After the grass is cut and the shrubberies planted and trimmed the driveway and walkways must be swept to make sure all debris has been collected, bagged and stored in an area ready for pickup.

Snow Removal

Snow on your roof may seem like a normal part of winter, but too much snow may cause damage to your home. A heavy and wet snowfall can put pressure on your roof and possibly cause it to collapse. Snow can also build up in your gutters, turn to ice and leak water into your home. There are a few ways you can get snow off your roof and keep ice from building up in your gutters.

Surface Treatment

The surface is treated primarily by snow removal. Roads are also treated by spreading various materials on the surface. These materials generally fall into two categories: chemical and inert.

Chemical (including salt) distribution induces freezing-point depression, causing ice and snow to melt at a lower temperature. Chemical treatment can be applied as a preventive measure and/or after snowfall.

Inert materials (i.e. sand, brash, slag) make the surface irregular to improve traction. Both types can be applied together, but the inert materials tend to lower traction once the snow and ice has melted.

Chemical treatment materials include:
Sodium chloride (common table salt, NaCl)
Calcium chloride (CaCl2)
Potassium chloride (KCl)
Magnesium chloride (MgCl2)
Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3)
Ammonium sulfate [(NH4)2SO4]
Potassium acetate (CH3COOK)
Urea [(NH2)2CO]
Propylene glycol (C3H8O2)
Calcium magnesium acetate (C4H6O2Ca and C4H6O2Mg)
Sodium ferrocyanide (hydrous, Na4Fe(CN)6•10H2O)
Methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside (C7H14O6) [18][19]

Inert spreadings can be:
sand
brash, rubble etc.
slag
wood ash (for household use only)
sawdust

The choice of treatment may include consideration of the effect on vegetation, pets and other animals, the local watershed, and effectiveness with regard to speed and temperature. Some chemicals can degrade concrete, metals, and other materials. The resulting meltwater and slush can cause frost heaving if it re-freezes, which can also damage pavement. Inert materials can damage vehicles and create dust.
